Star Trek

Log Entry: Telemetry Calibration

The navigational sensors mapped our target destination, plotting the course directly against the fixed coordinates of the solid, immovable dimension. With the grid locked in, we initiated phase-one of the jump, shifting the ship into an intermediate dimension that was flowing at an accelerated rate directly toward our target. We rode this cosmic current until the hull reached optimum velocity, using the universe's natural momentum to build immense speed.
Once we were up to speed, we phased directly into the completely void dimension. In this layer of total emptiness, there is no natural matter, no debris, and no celestial bodies to navigate around, allowing the ship to barrel directly toward the target coordinates completely unobstructed.
Yet, traveling this void is exactly like flying down the Autobahn at maximum velocity: it is a clean highway, but you are always at risk of encountering a jackknifed semi-truck sitting right in your lane. Because this emptiness is the ideal channel for cross-dimensional travel, you can still encounter deliberate traps like dimensional land mines, or catastrophic coincidences like a stalled vessel or debris from an unmapped accident. To prevent a fatal collision, our active sensor arrays continuously scan and analyze the path ahead, verifying that the coordinate is completely clear before our mass occupies it.
As we neared the destination coordinate, the automated piloting system initiated the braking sequence, phasing the ship progressively down through a series of slower dimensions that naturally bled off our extreme acceleration. By the time we dropped back down into our home dimension, the ship had slowed to a perfectly safe velocity, arriving precisely at the designated coordinate without ever violating the universal light-speed limit.
